CASA of North Texas
A Safe Home - A Loving Home - For Every Child.
CASA of North Texas recruits, trains and gives support to everyday people who act as volunteer advocates for children who have suffered abuse and/or neglect and found themselves in foster care.
These volunteers look out for the well being and best interests of these most vulnerable children, acting as independent and objective fact finders who speak with the child's parents, teachers, extended family members, neighbors and most importantly - the child. They work with the attorneys, social workers and child protective services workers. CASA volunteers provide information to the professionals and especially to the judge, who has the tremendous responsibility of making decisions that affect the very lives of the children. Information provided by CASA volunteers helps to ensure decisions made in each case take into account the child's best interests.
Since its creation by a family court judge in Seattle, Court Appointed Special Advocates has become one of the most effective programs of its kind. Today there are 951 CASA programs around the country. It is a unique blend of private support, public need and the kind of people power that comes from 75,000 volunteers all committed to the rights of every child in the foster care and child welfare system.
Key Outcomes for the CASA/GAL Model:

- Children with CASA volunteers spend less time in foster care and are less likely to be bounced home to home.
- Children with CASA volunteers do better in school and score better on nine protective factors.
