About Our Panelists

Leya Simmons is co-founder and CEO of BetterUnite, a first-of-its-kind software ecosystem that provides all of the tech tools nonprofits require to raise money and manage organizations in one collaborative place. Leya is a passionately articulate advocate for causes and entities, sharing her commitment to advocacy, social justice, the arts, and wellness. After working as a private art dealer, gallery owner, and art consultant for over fifteen years, Leya turned her focus to various nonprofit causes that she enjoyed supporting in myriad ways. It was while she was board president of Community Yoga Austin that the idea of BetterUnite was born, in collaboration with her co-founder, Tunç Samiloglu.

Micah James is the Manager of the Coaching Team at Bloomerang/Kindful. She has experience as a non-profit development director and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). She serves on the board of the Oklahoma Council for Economic Education, whose mission is to promote economic education and financial literacy education in Oklahoma. She is passionate about equipping non-profits with the resources they need to be successful.

Jessica Merrell is the founder and CEO of One Degree Impact, which helps organizations scale their impact through grants. She is an entrepreneur and philanthropist that loves to drive value and efficiency through the thoughtful orchestration of teams and processes. Her vision is creating a world where missions, metrics, and incentives align to solve real world problems and is passionate about finding innovative solutions to do so. She is actively working to realize this goal through her weekly show, The Future of Impact. Jess is also a cofounder and board member of the Merrell Family Foundation, where they're focused on increasing brain health awareness and erasing the stigma of mental illness.
