Since 2012, Dallas Pets Alive has worked to save the lives of healthy and treatable pets most at risk of euthanasia in North Texas. DPA focuses on animals with medical, behavioral, or situational challenges that traditional shelters may not be equipped to handle. Through rescue and adoption, DPA helps pets find the care and second chances they deserve.
In order to help individuals and families who feel there is no option but to take their pet to a shelter, DPA’s Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program helps reduce pet surrenders by connecting owners with resources to overcome challenges. Our team can provide support with veterinary bills, pet training, food, and more, keeping pets in homes and giving shelter animals more time to find their new families.
Dogs Matter expands this mission by supporting individuals and families during times of crisis, particularly those entering inpatient addiction recovery by ensuring their beloved pets are cared for while they focus on healing. Through temporary foster care, aftercare support, and access to resources, Dogs Matter removes barriers to prevent unnecessary surrender and helps keep people and their pets together.
For 40 years, The Humane Society of Dallas County has provided compassionate sheltering, lifesaving care, and adoption services while serving as a trusted resource for the community. With a commitment to humane treatment, education, and access to care, HSDC plays a vital role in protecting animals and supporting pet owners across North Texas.
Together, Dallas Pets Alive, Dogs Matter, and the Humane Society of Dallas County have merged to form a unified animal welfare organization dedicated to helping both ends of the leash, pets and the people who love them. By combining rescue, sheltering, prevention, and community support, we are creating a stronger, more sustainable future where every pet has the opportunity for a safe, healthy, and loving home.
