Elevator Repair Service (ERS) is a New York City-based theater company that creates original works with an ongoing ensemble that explore and challenge the fundamentals of live performance.
ERS is committed to risk-taking and reinvention, blending unusual texts with innovations in theatrical form. Pieces draw from a wide range of source material, including classic literature, contemporary plays, and Supreme Court transcripts. Projects are created through extended periods of collaboration; a typical development cycle lasts 12-36 months, punctuated by intensive rehearsal periods and work-in-progress showings. Following completion, pieces are presented in NYC and on tour throughout the US and abroad.
