We rescue surplus, freshly prepared food from professional kitchens to feed the hungry and reduce food waste.
Feeding Charlotte is a food rescue hunger relief organization that partners with professional kitchens across Mecklenburg county to rescue surplus, freshly prepared food. We have a dedicated team of volunteers who pick that food up and deliver it to small nonprofit food distribution parters who distribute that food throughout the community. The sad reality is that 100,000+ individuals across Mecklenburg county are experiencing food insecurity, including 1 in 6 households with children and 1 in 10 senior citizens. On the other side of the problem, roughly 40% of food produced in the U.S. ends up in the landfill. Feeding Charlotte acts as the conduit or connection between where food is wasted and where it's desperately needed. Our food recipients come from all backgrounds and walks of life and our distribution partners consist of general feeding programs and soup kitchens, transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness, after school and/or summer camp programs for children in underserved communities, senior living facilities, refugee housing communities and nonprofit medical rehabilitation centers for people experiencing homelessness.
