Auto Repair Transformation

Auto Repair Transformation (A.R.T.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to closing the equity gap in the automotive repair industry. Our mission is to remove systemic barriers for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, women, and low-income communities by creating inclusive pathways into automotive careers, expanding access to affordable auto repairs, and advocating for equity and justice across the industry. Officially founded in 2022, A.R.T. builds on over a decade of community-rooted work that began in 2012 through Repair Revolution, a repair shop committed to disrupting toxic industry norms and creating access for those historically excluded from the trades. A.R.T.'s programs are interconnected, each tackling economic, racial, and gender inequality from a different angle while working toward the same outcome: transportation as a pathway to opportunity. Our Low-Income Repair Program keeps community members safely housed, working, and mobile by removing transportation barriers that can lead to job loss, instability, or even the loss of shelter for those living in their vehicles. Through our Community Workshops, we equip drivers with the knowledge to maintain their vehicles affordably and avoid costly breakdowns. Beyond serving drivers, our Apprenticeship Program focuses on reforming the automotive industry itself, which remains one of the most male-dominated and exclusionary trades. Women make up less than 2% of the technician workforce. By providing a safe, inclusive training pipeline and partnering with shops committed to equity, A.R.T. is expanding the workforce while tapping into a vast, overlooked talent pool. Every program we run contributes to the same goal: transforming transportation from a source of inequity into a powerful economic equalizer.
