Rhett Sullivan Foundation
Providing Relief in a Family's Time of Need
The Rhett Sullivan Foundation is a non profit foundation that aids families who experience unexpected early child loss, with financial assistance, grief support and resources. We assist families financially with funeral, burial, cremation, headstone & counseling costs. The loss of a young child is traumatic and touches many families within our community. Our goal is to provide relief in their time of need.
Rhett Matthew Sullivan was born on July 3, 2017. He was our third child and was welcomed into our family with open arms, especially by his sisters, Hudson and Emory. They adored their little brother. Rhett was such a great baby and fit right into our family, almost like he had always been a part of it. September 20, 2017 was like any other day. We got him up, dressed him, fed him and took him to his sitter’s house. We kissed him and said goodbye not knowing that would be the last time we would see him as our active and loving 2.5 month old baby boy. Later that morning, Rhett was found unresponsive and not breathing during his morning nap. Ultimately, we lost Rhett on September 22, 2017 at 8:29pm as he took his last supported breath. The journey of reshaping our lives and carrying on after the loss has been supported by the desire to give Rhett a purpose beyond his untimely death.
Upon the loss of a young child, there is no part of your being that thinks about where to turn for financial or emotional support. Our family went into some kind of protection-mode, and at times a disbelief in our reality. It wasn’t until after Rhett’s funeral and burial that we understood the full impact of the tragedy in our daily lives, and the lack of organization around where to turn, or who to reach out to. The financial impact to young families can be devastating, and the emotional toll is even worse.
We love our son, in Heaven, very much and miss him everyday. In Rhett’s memory, we have started the Rhett Sullivan Foundation to help support families as they start their journey of life after losing a child.
