Target Hunger

Founded in 1989, Target Hunger works to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the Houston neighborhoods we serve. Our vision is a Houston where no one goes hungry and everyone can provide food for themselves and their families.

Target Hunger is one of Houston's largest organizations providing direct food assistance to food insecure children, families, and seniors who face the risk of going hungry every day. Our primary service area encompasses northeast and east Houston which includes some of the poorest communities in the city. Our food distribution system includes food pantries, an extensive home delivery program, educational food fairs, mobile pantry distributions, emergency food services, and two Community Gardens.

Target Hunger plays a critical role in ensuring food security across Houston by combining food assistance programs with programs and partnerships that address the root cause of hunger, poverty. These root cause programs include a growing Navigation Service programs that connects clients to a wide range of programs, like federal meal and healthcare assistance, utility and rental assistance, healthcare providers, and more. In addition, they are strengthening strategic partnerships and alignments with peer organizations to amplify impact.

In 2020, Target Hunger distributed food to nearly 31,000 unduplicated individuals, a more than 50% increase over the amount of people that were served in 2019.
