Our programs and services at The Children's Place work to equip children and families with the coping skills needed to transcend their past hardships and thrive within their everyday lives. What began in 1978 as a nursery for children under five-years-old, who were identified as victims of abuse and neglect, has grown to become Kansas City's comprehensive trauma treatment agency designed to help vulnerable children and families heal from life's deepest hurts. The agency offers four programs: Developmental Screenings for children six weeks to six years old; Counseling Services for children up to eight years old; Day Treatment, the most comprehensive intensive therapeutic program set in an early childhood education environment; and Family Support Services for parents and caregivers of children who have experienced traumatic events
