Chartered in 1973 as the Carolina Piedmont Foundation, and renamed in 2009, the USC Upstate Foundation exists to seek and accept gifts of charitable, benevolent, cultural and educational purposes for the exclusive benefit of the University. Accredited as a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, the Foundation has raised or otherwise administered contributions, grants, bond funds, and endowments for capital construction, laboratory, scholarship and endowment purposes.
